Tips for teleworking during quarantine

  1. Determine a specific space to work: make sure it is clean and tidy, and that you feel comfortable there.
  2. Create a schedule for work and rest: it is essential to make this a routine, and it helps us maintain discipline during these days. We must take breaks so that our brains and bodies can rest, and then continue with our tasks.
  3. Set specific and realistic goals: It is advisable to make a list of different goals (not too many) that you hope to achieve within a specific period of time. This will help you plan and optimize your time in the best possible way. And don't forget to "do one thing at a time."
  4. Maintaining a routine as if we were working under normal conditions—showering and getting dressed—is essential to keeping our spirits up.
  5. Make a list of key questions to organize the activities you will do during the day or week. Psychologist Verónica Serrano recommends asking yourself the following four questions: "What do I have left to do at home? What would I like to do at home? What would I like to learn? And how can I support the people I live with?"
  6. Ask for help if you need it: "If you are raising babies or young children, adapt to the family's rhythm, consider family needs, learn to set limits at certain agreed-upon times, and negotiate working hours with your co-parent, considering when you are most effective," says psychologist Alicia Núñez.
  7. Maintain communication with your peers and coworkers via video calls: It is advisable to hold weekly meetings to stay in touch and thus promote communication and a good working environment. Although quarantine means we cannot have physical contact with our coworkers, it is not healthy to isolate ourselves.
  8. Seek help if you are unfamiliar with technology: technology has become increasingly important, especially during this particular period we are experiencing. Psychologist Alicia Núñez recommends asking someone close to you who can guide you in using digital tools for assistance.
